Emily Kelly, Certified Infant Sleep Consultant

My name is Emily, I am a certified infant sleep consultant and a mum to my son, Milo.

 

I knew that my sleep was going to be affected when Milo arrived, but I had no idea just how much of a negative impact the sleep deprivation would have on my mental and physical health. I was beyond exhausted for the first four months of Milo's life, I was so emotionally overwhelmed and the sleep deprivation heightened any anxiety I was experiencing. Every day was just about survival and I used to dread getting towards 7-8pm as I knew I would be in for hours of an unsettled and unhappy baby.

 

By the time Milo reached four months I had had enough. I knew I was not being the mother I could be, and more importantly wanted to be. So, we enlisted the help of a sleep consultant and that day will forever go down in my memory as the day my parenting journey stopped being about survival and truly began.

 

After finding a routine and rhythm that suited our family, and a loving way to empower Milo to fall asleep independently, I quickly became passionate about all things baby sleep and knew it was my duty to pay the gift of sleep forward. I have helped many families out of the dark and desperate hole of sleep deprivation and have provided the light on how to find joy again in their parenting journeys. I will say to you what I said to myself; you do not have to suffer, and nor do you have to compromise on your parenting beliefs.

If you were to ask me a question that started with the words "Is it ok if I..?", then I would not provide you with an answer.

Why?

Because that question immediately hands all the power over to me to make a decision for you and your family, and that is not what I am here to do. Instead I want to encourage you to look inwards and ask yourself: Is this working for me? Is this something I would like to continue? Is this helping me and my baby get enough sleep? Am I feeling well emotionally and physically?

You already have all the answers.

I am here to guide you once YOU have made the decision that something is no longer working for you or your family. My approach is gentle – working with you, not against your most fundamental parenting beliefs. I start from the premise that you are not a ‘bad’ parent, nor are you doing anything wrong; it is all about tweaks, working together, listening to you, and ultimately empowering you to make the right decisions for your family.
